The previously listed date of 1908 is probably wrong for this collection. Cardiff Rugby Club play in Blue and Black, so the Cardiff club listed here must be Cardiff City, but they played in local leagues until turning professional and joining the Southern League in 1910, gaining promotion to the First Division for the 1913-14 season. Roger Pashby tells me that Huddersfield Town, although founded in 1908, didn't start playing in Blue and White Stripes until 1909-10.

Derry Celtic were voted out of the Irish League 1913 and disbanded that year.
Sam on the Cigarette Card Collecting forum posted a lot of information for me, that was originally included in two books published by the Cartophilic Society of Great Britain. Fossil, another member of the same forum has provided details of the 8 missing cards from my list.
UPDATE (26-08-2023 12:02):  An example of a Murray Cigarettes version added.
UPDATE (23-03-2024 11:00):  Paul Briers has provided information and photos of the Brentford card and as he states that Brentford only played in those colours for the 1909-10 season (and Cardiff City only turned professional for the 1910-11 season) it's probably safe to date these as a 1910 issue.
UPDATE (26-03-2024 12:18):  The Murray Cigarettes version of the Brentford card has been added, thanks to Paul Briers and Garry Daynes.

  1. Hi Alan
A poster on the facebook Vintage Card group has posted a new collection of these. Included is a Brentford FC version of the card. Brentford only played in those colours for one season, 1909/1910. https://www.brentfordshirts.com/1909-10
Therefore, these cards I'd date as circa 1910.
The Brentford card is here too; https://brentfordfcmemorabilia.wordpress.com/cigarette-trade-cards-1910/
    all the best

  2. Hi Alan
A recent Facebook post (on the Vintage Card page) has shown several copies of these incredibly rare cards.
Included is the Brentford FC card.
These colours were only worn for one seasom, 1909/1910.
    https://www.brentfordshirts.com/1909-10
Therefore these have to be dated 1909/1910.
The Brentford card i added to my website,

    1. Hi Paul,

Those cards are amazing, thanks for alerting me to them. I've updated a couple of the colours in my checklist. It's a pity he didn't show all the backs. I've still only got eleven colours identified so far.
I've gone with 1910 for the date of issue as although Brentford only played in those colours during the 1909-10 season, Cardiff City are included and they didn't play their first professional game in the Second Division of the Southern League until September 1910.

      Cheers,
      Alan
