Sparbanken (Sweden) - Sparbankens Samlarbilder

1948

Sparbankens Samlarbilder
Sparbanken
Sweden
36 cards

My friend in Sweden has sent in another excellent checklist (I didn't know anything about this set)...

This is a quite interesting small series that was issued in Sweden in 1948. It was issued by a bank called 'Sparbanken'. It consisted of 36 small cards depicting Swedish football players. The checklist included the first card of Gunnar Nordahl as well as that of Gunnar Gren and Nils Liedholm, making this an important issue.
UPDATE (25-04-2017 22:06):  Stefan has provided some additional information via the comments at the bottom of the post - the 36 cards actually depicts 36 Swedish gold medalists from the 1936 and 1948 Olympic Games. Only cards 13-24 depicts football players and the rest are athletes from other sports.
UPDATE (20-11-2022 17:53):  According to a comment below, this is not the first card of Gunnar Nordahl. A card was issued in Denmark in 1943.

  2. Allow me to point out that there is a Gunnar Nordahl card printed in 1943 from an album published in Denmark. Sparbanken's is not the rookie.
