Carl Schütt (West Germany) - (31930-02) Beliebte Sportler

1959
(31930-02) Beliebte Sportler
Schütt, Hamburg

West Germany
72 cards (26 football)

A multi-sport album, I don't have a complete checklist for this album and I don't even know how many football cards there are in the set.
UPDATE (26-07-2020 06:24):  Carl Wilkes has provided another 12 names for this checklist and has also confirmed the total number of cards at 72).
UPDATE (02-01-2021 19:46):  Steve Owens has provided a checklist for this collection. The cards are unnumbered but are listed here in the order they appear in the album and numbers have been added for reference purposes only. There are a number of similar sets but the cards from this set are easily identified as they have a watermark featuring two weightlifters.
UPDATE (16-03-2021 19:00):  Carl Wilkes has provided a complete and comprehensive checklist for this collection which replaces the previous incomplete listing. His website can be found here - Football Soccer Cards and he is the author of two outstanding reference books on football cards and stickers:

BELIEBTE SPORTLER vending machine gum cards by Carl Schütt, believed to be late 1959 but may be early 1960 just like the similar ‘lucky bag’ collection by Heinerle. Certainly no later than the Heinerle series but far rarer. In the album’s foreword it is stated that this collection is the first to be given with vending machine gum. For every 10 Pfennig coin inserted into a gum vending machine, the collector will get one card & one stick of gum.
The album pages each hold either 2, 4 or 5 cards, as grouped below. Most pages have 4 cards. There are 72 cards in all. Many cards bear different titles to those seen on the album pages. The cards all bear 2 titles: front & back. These are often different between the backs and the fronts. The titles on the fronts of the cards differ to the place-holder titles in the album. Many of the names are not capilalized. For example, brazil is typical rather than Brazil, and some cards use parentheses for team names while others do not. The list of backs and fronts below shows the correct titles, in that order. The title showing on the back of the card is the same, in most instances, as the place holder in the album. Pages are unnumbered. The numbers used below are for identification purposes only.
